We welcome you to Ristorante Civile…
Tom Civile opened his first restaurant in September, 1989 in Kenilworth, New Jersey. “Civile Ristorante Italiano” was a cozy and elegant fine dining restaurant with a cuisine that combined quality and innovation.
After ten years of success he opened his second restaurant, “Civile’s Venice on the Hudson”, on the banks of the glorious Hudson River in Haverstraw, New York. This area was giving birth to a massive urban renewal and revitalization development making Tom a pioneer in all that was happening.
He spent the next fifteen years creating an establishment that was later hailed as “iconic” by local media. With characteristic passion Tom had created a setting that was world-class and enjoyed by thousands over the years.
Tom’s favorite quote, which hung over the entranceway, said it best: “Just Another Day in Paradise”, or ““Un altro giorno nel paradise”.
On October 29th, 2012 Tom’s paradise was shattered by Hurricane Sandy. All he had created and dedicated himself to for the past fifteen years was washed away. The option to rebuild lingered in the back of his mind, but also the thought that God meant it for good and had a different direction for him to follow.
After months of soul searching Tom decided it was time to move on and explore newer opportunities. He decided to come back to his roots in New Jersey and has chosen Morris Plains to open his fine establishment, “Ristorante Civile” (pronounced “Chee-VEE-laay”), where he will offer the same quality and innovation in an elegant and comfortable setting for all.
Tom’s desire is that everyone will enjoy what he believes to be the best restaurant he has ever opened and one of the finest in the area. He thanks you ahead of time and looks forward to greeting and meeting you all.
